Grids' Submission to Integrating Price Responsive Resources Rule Change

The AEMC is consulting on Integrating price-responsive resources into the NEM, submissions due 14th September. Grids made a submission which is available here.

Grids believes that this is a great opportunity to consider how to properly integrate price responsive resources, and has given a few suggestions that could improve the design such as:

  • Developing fit for purpose market interfaces,

  • Reducing bidding increments in all markets to 100kW, and

  • Reducing minimum registration sizes and improving registration and portfolio update processes for higher throughput and lower cost.

There are many other aspects to focus on (and you should write a submission on them!) but these changes to systems and settings would reduce barriers, increase competition and increase the efficiency of how participants offer capacity into the market. We should consider the feasibility, costs and potential benefits of doing so.
